🐾 Sinking Fund Facts – Video #2!
In May of 2025, our community voted down a sinking fund proposal. We listened to the feedback, and in today's short video, we explain what we heard and how the 2026 proposal is different.
We're moving from 3 mills for 10 years to 2 mills for 4 years.
Up next, we'll highlight some of the exciting academic opportunities we've added and the facility improvements we've already made.
Thanks for taking a couple of minutes to stay informed!🧡🖤

What is a Sinking Fund?
We recently hosted two community conversations about the sinking fund proposal that will appear on the November 3, 2026 ballot. We recognize that not everyone was able to attend, so we're bringing the information to you!
Over the next several days, we'll share a series of short videos explaining the proposal, our district's facility needs, the improvements we've already made, and what the proposal would mean for taxpayers.
🎥 In today's video, we answer a simple question: What exactly is a sinking fund?

🐾 Bulldog Points of Pride!🐾
Here’s another story that becomes even more meaningful when we follow a group of students from one grade to the next.
In Spring 2025, as 7th graders, 57.4% of this cohort met the M-STEP English Language Arts proficiency standard.
One year later, as 8th graders, 78.7% met the PSAT 8/9 Reading & Writing benchmark.
That represents a 21.3 percentage-point increase in the percentage of this cohort meeting their respective grade-level literacy standard or benchmark!
It is important to note that these are different assessments—M-STEP ELA in 7th grade and PSAT 8/9 Reading & Writing in 8th grade—so this isn't an apples-to-apples measure of individual student growth. But it does show a very encouraging trajectory as this group of Bulldogs progressed from one grade to the next.
And at 78.7%, nearly 8 out of every 10 students in this cohort met the 8th-grade Reading & Writing benchmark.
That's progress worth recognizing, an achievement worth celebrating, and another reminder of what can happen when our students, staff, and families keep working together.

We are happy to announce our new Varsity Basketball Coach, Ron Estes! Ron has a wealth of coaching experience, both in Basketball and Football. He was a former teacher and Varsity Basketball coach at Summerfield from 1993-1999, leading Summerfield to its first TCC championship in school history. He also served as the head football coach in Blissfield for many years, including a state runner up finish in 2007. He has also served as an assistant at Adrian College. We are thrilled to welcome Ron back to the Bulldog Family!
We are also excited to announce that Mr. Josh Andrews will also be returning to the sidelines to assist Ron on his staff this year!

During the meeting, the District Wellness Committee will review Summerfield Schools’ Local Wellness Policy and complete the District’s triennial wellness assessment.

Location: Summerfield High School — Board of Education Room
Sometimes the most meaningful story isn't found by comparing one year's 6th graders to the next year's 6th graders. It's found by following the same group of students as they move from one grade to the next.
And this one is worth celebrating!
In Spring 2025, 25.0% of this cohort met the M-STEP Mathematics proficiency standard as 5th graders. One year later, as 6th graders, 51.1% met the mathematics proficiency standard.
That's a 26.1 percentage-point increase in just one year — more than doubling the cohort's proficiency rate!
We also know that 51.1% isn't our finish line. There is more work ahead, and our goal remains continued growth and higher levels of achievement for every student.
But when a group of students makes this kind of progress, it deserves to be recognized. It reflects the effort of our students, the work of their teachers and staff, and the support they receive along the way.
Great work, class of 2032!

These funds will cover launch equipment and support the programs over the next two school years, helping our students build skills for their futures.
The future is bright, and exciting opportunities are ahead!

Our first Sinking Fund Informational Meeting is next week. Please consider joining us to learn more about the proposal, hear information about the district’s facility needs, and ask questions.
📅 October 1st or October 14th
⏰ 6:00 p.m.
📍 Summerfield Jr./Sr. High School Cafeteria
We hope you’ll join us and learn more about the proposal before Election Day.

🐾 Bulldog Points of Pride! 🐾
We’re proud to celebrate our 8th grade students (our current 9th grade class), with 78.7% meeting the PSAT 8/9 Reading & Writing benchmark this spring!
That’s 11.2 percentage points above the Monroe County average and 13.9 points above the Michigan average.
This achievement wasn’t built in a single year. It reflects years of hard work by our students, encouragement and support from their families, and a commitment to learning along the way.
We’re also grateful for the many teachers and staff members who have taught, challenged, and supported these students throughout their journey at Summerfield.
This success has been years in the making—and our entire Bulldog family can be proud! 🧡🖤
